The Search for Truth

"Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven, because that is where the laws of God operate truly, and they can operate only truly because they are the laws of truth. But seek this only, because you can find nothing else. There is nothing else." [T110/119]

"Now you are being shown you can escape. All that is needed is you look upon the problem as it is, and not the way that you have set it up. How could there be another way to solve a problem that is very simple, but has been obscured by heavy clouds of complication, which were made to keep the problem unresolved? Without the clouds the problem will emerge in all its primitive simplicity. The choice will not be difficult, because the problem is absurd when clearly seen. No one has difficulty making up his mind to let a simple problem be resolved if it is seen as hurting him, and also very easily removed." [T540/581f]

"The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love's presence, which is your natural inheritance." [Introduction]

"Love is not learned. Its meaning lies within itself. And learning ends when you have recognized all it is not. That is the interference; that is what needs to be undone." [T369/396]

"The removal of blocks, then, is the only way to guarantee help and healing." [T142/153]

"The Holy Spirit, Who remembers this for you, merely teaches you how to remove the blocks that stand between you and what you know." [T261/281]

"Our lessons now are geared specifically to widening horizons, and direct approaches to the special blocks that keep your vision narrow, and too limited to let you see the value of our goal." [W328/336]

"Very simply, the purpose of psychotherapy is to remove the blocks to truth. Its aim is to aid the patient in abandoning his fixed delusional system, and to begin to reconsider the spurious cause and effect relationships on which it rests." [PPP1]

"The Holy Spirit's function is entirely communication. He therefore must remove whatever interferes with communication in order to restore it. Therefore, keep no source of interference from His sight, for He will not attack your sentinels." [T266/286]

"Those who seek the light are merely covering their eyes." [W347/357]

"The first step toward freedom involves a sorting out of the false from the true." [T30/34]

"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all of the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. It is not necessary to seek for what is true, but it is necessary to seek for what is false." [T315/338]

"The search for truth is but the honest searching out of everything that interferes with truth." [T267/287]

"Our task is but to continue, as fast as possible, the necessary process of looking straight at all the interference and seeing it exactly as it is." [T300/322]

"Do not leave any spot of pain hidden from His Light, and search your mind carefully for any thoughts you may fear to uncover." [T227/243]

"...search your mind for every thought that stands between you and your salvation." [W61/61]

"The miracle does nothing. All it does is to undo. And thus it cancels out the interference to what has been done. It does not add, but merely takes away." [T547/589]

"You will undertake a journey because you are not at home in this world. And you will search for your home whether you realize where it is or not. If you believe it is outside you the search will be futile, for you will be seeking it where it is not. You do not remember how to look within for you do not believe your home is there." [T208f/224]

"Seek not outside yourself. For all your pain comes simply from the futile search for what you want, insisting where it must be found. What if it is not there? Do you prefer that you be right or happy?" [T573/617]

"Only by learning what fear is can you finally learn to distinguish the possible from the impossible and the false from the true." [T190/205]

"...you must realize that your hatred is in your mind and not outside it before you can get rid of it; and why you must get rid of it before you can perceive the world as it really is." [T207/222]

"You may wonder why it is so crucial that you look upon your hatred and realize its full extent. You may also think that it would be easy enough for the Holy Spirit to show it to you, and to dispel it without the need for you to raise it to awareness yourself. Yet there is one more obstacle you have interposed between yourself and the Atonement. We have said that no one will countenance fear if he recognizes it. Yet in your disordered state of mind you are not afraid of fear. You do not like it, but it is not your desire to attack that really frightens you. You are not seriously disturbed by your hostility. You keep it hidden because you are more afraid of what it covers. You could look even upon the ego's darkest cornerstone without fear if you did not believe that, without the ego, you would find within yourself something you fear even more. You are not really afraid of crucifixion. Your real terror is of redemption." [T225/243]

In toto, the Workbook uses the phrase "search your mind" 10 times. It asks to search for such things as: fear thoughts, anxiety provoking situations, "offending" personalities and events, unloving thoughts, any sense of loss or unhappiness, source and forms of upset, worry, depression, situations which arouse anger, and attack thoughts.
